Unleashing the secrets of Meta tag

Introduction about Meta tag:
The Meta tag in html is not a essential tag when we are making our web pages, many pages do not use the tag at all, and I suggest that we can use meta tag in our home page or not using meta tag in our home page is immaterial and it is optional, even though I put it into this article the way of explaining the meta tag and how it is used in our web site. I here explain the use of Meta tag briefly; the Meta tag is used by search engines to allow them to more accurately list our site in their indexes. If we simply create our home page and register the URL with a search engine, or a number of search engines, their spider programmer will walk along to our site to index it. Now, each of the search engines does this slightly different. It is therefore makes sense to ensure that our opening paragraph is carefully written to ensure it accurately tells what our site covers. However, we may be able to exert a certain amount of control over how our site is indexed by the use of the Meta tag. I must however point out that not all search engines will use this Meta tag only AltaVista does, but Excite does not. Even though it is not an essential tag for our web site we will not miss to putting Meta tag in our website while developing a web site and it may work well in some cases.
How does a Meta tag look like?
We must insert the Meta tag element at the top of our document, after the less than TITLE greater than element. It follows the usual form of tags, that is, LT META name="something" content="something else" GT
but note that you don't have to have a LT/META GT at the end of the tag, the way how we do with something like LT BOLD GT bold LT(/BOLD)GT. However, we make sure that each tag does not have any line breaks, since some search engines get a little bit confusion about this if we add line break after each line.
How the Meta tag looks:
The following are the major Meta tag syntax given for your better understanding:
(1) LT META name="description" content="a description of our page" GT Depending on the search engine, this will be displayed along with the title of your page in an index. "Content" could be a word, sentence or even paragraph to describe our page. Keep this reasonably short and precise to the point. However, we need not explain everything in our description and also it is not an appropriate reflection of the contents we used in our site while developing the web site.
(2) LT META name="keywords" content="a, list, of, keywords" GT Choose whatever keywords you think are appropriate, separated by commas. Remember to include synonyms, Americanisms and so on. So, if you had a page on bus, you might want to include keywords such as bus, buses, vehicles, automobiles and etc.
