Buying free hosting is buying a bunch of problems FREE ! Nothing in this world comes free

By Ashokrajan Balakrishnan of Metis Technologies Private Limited

If you utilize a free host for your business you are making a huge blunder. I don't believe many people understand the number of disadvantages that go along with creating free websites. Optimistically this article will get rid of some light on the subject.
Don't make the same blunder I did. After this nightmare, I vowed to never go the "free route" again. Creating your site from scrape with its own domain name (yoursite.com) is inexpensive (less than $7/month on average) and certainly worth the small investment.
Parking your site at a at no cost host is often like constructing a house on sand. It may be rapid and it may appear easy at first, but I can roughly guarantee you it won't last long.
Disadvantages of Free Web Hosts
• Limited web page liberty
• Can't add interactive features (chat rooms, message boards, games, online ordering etc.)
• Search engines frequently ignore them (Your traffic will be limited)
• Your visitors may doubt your reliability
• May have banners and/or pop ads on your homepage and/or all of your pages
• Lengthy and hard-to-remember web address (instead of yourdomain.com)
• No guarantees of site accessibility and longevity
• No branded emails addresses (you@yourdomain.com)
• Poor help and maintain options (if any)
• May not be free everlastingly
Advantages of Owning Your Own Dot Com Name
• Easy to keep in mind website address (yourdomain.com)
• No banners or popups
• Easier to get listed in search engines (Google, Yahoo etc.)
• You have added control over the look and feel of your website.
• Multiple labelled email addresses (you@yourdomain.com)
• Ample of web page space for site growth
• No doubts of site being removed without warning
• Looks more professional
• More flexibility for design and functionality
• Help is voluntarily available
You might be tempted to make a free website because you don't want to pay out any money. Trust me. I'd rather you wait until you've saved some money than begin your site on a free host and then switch later.
I know a lot of people who went to Blogger.com to build a free blog simply to have their blog shut down by Google or they didn't understand how difficult it would be to shift their blog to a waged host.
It's superior to do it right the first time or you might be in for a big nuisance when it comes to moving your site. Why create the additional hassle?
Free Websites & Making Money Online Don't Mix
It amazes me how many people tell me that they wish to begin a business website but don't desire to spend any money.
In person don't know of a single victorious website owner that created their business website on a free host.
If you were opening an offline business, you'd plan on investing some money right? Well, doing business on the web is no different in spite of many beliefs. If you don't plan to invest something to start a business then I'd have to question your drive.
I've been making money on the Internet for over a decade and I have YET to read a success story from somebody hosting their site on Blogger.com or Yola. It's no chance that victorious people own their own domains.
Plus, you can't anticipate people to take you or your site seriously if your website address starts with somewhat like is http://myfreesite...
And if the address doesn't tip your guests off, the banners and pop-ups you'll be compulsory to display sure will. Also, the templates (if any!) they give are generally very basic and lacking a professional look.
Think about it. Wouldn't you be a little doubtful if the web address of a business was somewhat like http://members.aol.com/create/welcome.html with pop-ups and banners instead of www. my company.com?
Web surfers are becoming much more Internet savvy and they can whiff a "cheap site" a mile away. You don't want to drop credibility and potential clients because of the unethical feel.
Any time an important person sends me their "business" site on Blogger.com I right away discredit the site. Sorry, but that's what most people do. Free web hosts just aren't taken seriously.
Not to talk about, you can only do so much with them. So if you want to include shopping carts, order forms and extra interactive features you most likely won't be able to do this since most free hosting companies don't offer that kind of functionality.
More Problems Free Website Hosters May come across
It is quite costly for these companies to run a free hosting service since the company has to spend for the space and the bandwidth (traffic) to host thousands of web sites. And since they contributing these sites for free, a few companies find themselves loosing money very quickly.
They try to keep their service free by slapping banners on the member's pages, hoping that people will click and buy products...but feel about it...how many banners have you clicked on lately?
Then some may try to redeem themselves by charging a "small" fee for their facility. And of course, if you aren't eager to pay for your site, you can say "bye bye" to all of your hard work.
If you haven't read my story, here it is again.
Almost all free website providers let you know in their terms and conditions that there are NO GUARANTEES when it comes to maintaining your site. Which means they reserve the right to take away your site at anytime, in spite of of how much work you’ve put into it?
I really expect you'll make a decision to come back and learn how to register your domain name. Speaking as someone who has been burned by the free hosting companies, I am certain you won't regret the choice to pay for your site.
The Best Way to Build a Website
My advice is to register your own domain (dot com) name and build your site from scrape.
The registration process is very easy. You're able to search the Internet's domain name record until you find a name that hasn't been taken. Within seconds you can reserve it and it's yours for as long as you want.
Once you have the name you want, you'll need a place to make your web pages. A web hosting company will give you with the help you require in this area.
I hope you'll make the smart decision.

In most cases, Ashokrajan, there is usually a price to pay for "FREE". When we earn, we learn and this has value. When it's a gift, we associate the value as such, because we didn't earn it.
Thank you for sharing.
Best wishes.

I went with GoDaddy for hosting my domain name (piano business) and I'm glad I did. It's going well. My book business on Blogger is slower. I agree with you... thanks!
